On the road... / Entre mouettes et étoiles
Have you ever noticed how some things are better said one way or another? How seemingly unrelated images can convey the idea a lot better than a good description would? Surprising concepts overlapping and creating new,
more accurate ones.
This evolving multi-media multi-language booklet,
composed over many years and many countries,
rose out of my realizations as a (sometimes) jaded translator (i.e. sometimes a language falls short of conveying the correct vision, no matter how accurate the translation can be). As an artist I had to push things further (of course!); I had to diversify, to think about all that is so far beyond words, impossible to reproduce in another language
think here about language at large(*)
without shifting cultural references, without adapting the imagery gained throughout a lifetime of experiences, without damaging what makes each of us unique.
* anything that conveys a meaning - spoken words of course but also touch, other sounds, visual representations of any kind, body language, etc.
The following represents my need to resist conventions (in writing and others), to embrace what comes in and to deliver it directly from the bowels of the brain
as untouched as possible.
Circumstances dictate what’s best.
In short, these are momentary glimpses of a life: mine.
