Biography
Elsa Chesnel is a visual artist and translator who currently resides on Katzie and Kwantleeen territories - also known as Maple Ridge, Canada. She was born in 1985 in New Caledonia (South Pacific), grew up in Provence (France), immigrated to the Fraser Valley in British Columbia (Canada), and explored a large portion of the Northern Hemisphere on her own.
Elsa works experimentally across multiple disciplines - painting, sketching, photography, sculpture, writing, sewing, woodwork, etc., each practice influencing the others.
Inquiring about what lies beyond languages, her art engages abstraction and draws inspiration from linguistics, patterns, and their roles in shaping perception.
Elsa’s work has been exhibited in galleries in the Lower Mainland, B.C., and is held in private collections in France and in Canada.
