This is not conventional beauty that Elsa is after. Her experimentation rather gravitates towards the expressive trade of human emotions.
Self taught in the visual arts, Elsa Chesnel rejected integrating into a French Art School to focus on immigrating to Canada. This decade of apparent setback in her artistic growth returned with a vengeance of darkness and colors, sending her staggering toward abstraction. Elsa regained her footing remembering Kandinsky’s reckless curves, experimenting with Sonia Delaunay’s bold colors, and discovering Joan’s Mitchell’s aggressive softness. Lines of Thoughts was born.
A more recent development prompted Elsa to incorporate her figurative life drawing practice into her abstract compositions, giving life to her Ghostlike series of work.
